Go Green’s Safe Sunscreen Swap!

Screen Shot 2018-min

School is out! In honor of summer break, trips to Barton Springs, and BBQs, we present you with our Safe Sunscreen Swap! While sunscreen is a necessity in our neck of the woods, make sure you are choosing the safest options for you and your family. According to the Environmental Working Group, over 67% of sunscreens on the market do not provide adequate protection from harmful UV rays and/or contain dangerous ingredients.

A few general guidelines to keep in mind when shopping for sunscreen:

  • Avoid any product that contains OXYBENZONE – Oxybenzone acts as an estrogen and is linked to significant hormone disruption in men.
  • Avoid any product that contains VITAMIN A – Vitamin A can react with UV rays and increases the risk of skin tumors. Sport sunscreens are notorious for containing Vitamin A.
  • Avoid SPRAY SUNSCREENS – The FDA has raised concerns about inhalation risks, and the spray makes it difficult to apply evenly and accurately.
